Translating Research into Clinical Impact in Brussels
On Thursday, 23 October 2025, the final Science Café of the year took place at Prague House in Brussels, this time under the title “CREATIC CoE: Translating Research into Clinical Impact.” The event focused on how the results of biomedical research can be translated into clinical practice and how the journey from laboratory innovation to patient care can be accelerated.
The evening offered an opportunity to present the mission of the Centre of Excellence CREATIC at Masaryk University, which was established to help ensure equitable and timely access to advanced therapy medicinal products for patients with rare and paediatric diseases in Central and Eastern Europe. In this context, the discussion highlighted not only scientific excellence, but also the importance of building the full pathway from research and development to clinical application and patient access.
The guests of the evening were Prof. Regina Demlová, Director of the CREATIC Centre of Excellence, and Prof. Ondřej Slabý, Scientific Director of the National Institute for Cancer Research. Both speakers shared their perspectives on connecting academic research with clinical practice and reflected on the opportunities and challenges linked to the development and testing of advanced therapies. The discussion was moderated by Táňa Hálová Perglová from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, whose moderation helped create an open and engaging atmosphere that encouraged active participation from the audience.
Beyond the formal programme, the event also created valuable space for further exchange. The evening continued with networking, refreshments and a tasting of South Moravian wines, allowing participants to continue the discussion informally and build new connections across the research and innovation community in Brussels.
The final Science Café of 2025 confirmed once again how important open dialogue is for strengthening the connection between science, innovation and society. For CREATIC, it was a valuable opportunity to present its vision in an international setting and to contribute to a broader discussion on how advanced therapies can move more effectively from research into meaningful clinical impact. The event took place in cooperation with the South Moravian Region Representation to the EU, the Czech Liaison Office for Education and Research in Brussels, and Prague House in Brussels.
